Back in 2006, Spore creator Will Wright had proudly announced that the game would be playable on pretty much every device known to man. If you're toaster didn't run a copy of Spore it would have been seen as a failure in Wright's eyes. Flash forward two years. The game doesn't exactly make its way to the Wii or Nokia n-Gage as promised. In fact the only devices you find Spore on are the PC, Mac and iPhone. But could the iPhone version possibly offer everything it's PC counterpart did?

Contrary to popular belief, architectural wonders of the 20th century aren't painstakingly planned and constructed over months and years. They're built like sandwiches in 45 seconds. That's what the iPhone game Skyscrapers would lead me to believe, and I see no real reason to doubt it. Taking the addictive formula presented by prize-bearing amusements like Stacker, Skyscrapers puts you at the forefront of tower building technology. Who knew that you could put up buildings just by tapping the touch screen? Ahh, the wonders of science.

When I was in high school, my first job was scooping ice cream in a little shop called Blum's. It was my dream job. What could be more fun than scooping ice cream all day? And you could always get a free ice cream whenever you wanted. Ice cream is definitely one of my key comfort foods. So, when I saw there was an ice cream-based iPhone game called Scoops - Ice Cream Fun For Everyone, I knew I just had to indulge myself.

Like many of you girls out there, I went to see "He's Just Not That Into You" last weekend. It was definitely a movie about women for women (a "chick flick," as my husband would say), but I could relate, and I enjoyed it. I realize that we women spend a lot of time consoling each other, convincing our girlfriends that "your hair looks great" or "those jeans do NOT make you look fat."

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. for the first time on my family's Nintendo console. My reaction was, "Why do I care about this little Italian plumber?" Maybe it was the way he stared at me, waiting to be moved along in his quest to save the princess. Maybe it was the surprised and disappointed look on his pixelated face when I accidentally dropped him off a cliff. Whatever it was, it didn't take long for me to become completely engaged and addicted to caring about what happened to Mario and his friends. Is that possible in a game you play on your iPhone? It is indeed. In fact, Rolando is so much fun and so well designed, that it is hard to not to call it the perfect iPhone game.

Anyone who sampled Terminator's recent big-screen revival might well be convinced that a time where machines run the world is inevitable, but thankfully, right now you'd be hard pushed to find a robot that can delve much beyond opening a tin of soup for you. They might well have the brains, but our tech-laden friends just don't have the personality to push us off the top spot. Well, that's apart from the robots in Reiner Knizia's Robot Master, of course.

When it first hit the scene back in 2007, Puzzle Quest was a breath of fresh air. Combining Bejeweled-style gameplay with an epic role-playing adventure, the game pushed the boundaries of what could be done with simple match-3 mechanics. Now nearly two years later, this puzzling adventure has hit the iPhone.

Once in a while, I come across a game that is the perfect blend of mindless fun. I don’t have to think hard to understand the rules. I enjoy the graphics, and I find myself so engaged in getting past the next level that I have to force myself to stop playing. PileUp! Candymania is just such a game. The graphics are enticing (who doesn’t like candy?), and the gameplay is simple and addictive. It’s the perfect snack for my brain.

Nudge might look like he's all big arms and brute strength, but deep down inside he's just a monster with a kind-hearted soul. Nudge just wants to make sure the poor little balloon finds its way to the exit, and he'll use his muscles to make sure that he can move any obstacles out of the balloons way. But he'll need more than just muscles -- he'll need brains too.

Designed as an entry for Casual Gameplay Design Competition 6, Small Worlds is a browser game that explores the concept of exploration. It took its spelunking attitude seriously, winning both the design competition and the Audience Choice Award. But all of this praise and internet chatter about Small Worlds begs one simple question: just what is Small Worlds? And why does it seem to be so universally loved?

If Puzzle Bloom’s dystopian workplace is to be believed the future is a bleak, depressing place. Large hulking monsters are enslaved into work camps surrounded by rock and mud. Robot supervisors keep them working around the clock. There’s not a corner of greenery left in this sad, ugly future. Not until you get there, that is. It’s time to take back the future for Mother Nature. It’s time for Puzzle Bloom.
