Plants vs. Zombies for cash: WorldWinner's Brian Mahoney on skill gaming

30th of June 2010

Games can be a way for people to relax and have fun, but that's not the only reason to play. For those with a more competitive drive, skill gaming offers a chance for game gurus to prove their mettle in tournaments where real cash prizes are up for grabs. Gamezebo spoke with Brian Mahoney, who is Director of Product Development at WorldWinner.com, to learn more about skill gaming and how the company is adapting popular games like Bejeweled, Plants vs. Zombies and Scrabble to the format.

Max Injury 2 Review

30th of June 2010

It’s amazing what a single update can do. In the process of reviewing Max Injury 2, a major update came out and transformed a game that was almost unplayable into a fun title. While why the developers initially let such a substandard product be released is confusing, Max Injury 2 has become a decent timewaster for your iPhone.

The Battle of Shogun Review

30th of June 2010

I love good tower defense games. Sure, they may be simple, but they're usually a fun way to kill a few minutes between classes or meetings, and they make me think a little about strategy. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm even a little bit biased towards them. I'm telling you this because when I say a tower defense title is bad, that means it's really bad. We're talking irredeemably bad here. Carrot Top bad. Guess what, folks? Milestone Vietnam's new tower defense title, The Battle of Shogun? It's that bad.

Prism - Light the Way! Review

30th of June 2010

Prism – Light the Way is a puzzle game that uses lasers with mirrors splitters and Prisms to bounce around light beams to light up different colored bulbs. The player is tasked with solving setup after setup of ever increasing difficulty having to bend and move the light beams all around in order to clear each level. But does Prism beam out a rainbow of good times... or bounce off into the darkness?

Jack of All Worlds Review

30th of June 2010

John Wizard’s latest RPG is a bit of a misfire. Jack of All Worlds sports the developers’ trademark witty dialogue and strong production values, but it also has a peculiar, memory-based battle system, precious little in the way of character development, a hero we never really get to know, and an abrupt and unsatisfying ending.

Word Power: The Green Revolution Review

30th of June 2010

As a collaboration between Reader’s Digest and a development studio called Fit Brains, a company responsible for creating challenging “brain games,” Word Power should be a challenging, informative game for all players. However, because of a poorly-constructed game design and a style of play that at times requires no creativity or skill, it is a game that becomes tedious in a very short amount of time.
