There are plenty of people who choose not to eat before swimming. Fortunately for us, none of those people happen to be squids. Guuulp is a cute little free game about a squid with an intense hunger. This hunger can only be satisfied by devouring the ocean's supply of fish. Guuulp isn't perfect, but it will certainly fulfill any strange desire you have to become the largest squid in the sea. |

In this fourth installment in the Midnight Mysteries series, things take a magical twist, as the ghost of Harry Houdini’s widow Bess comes to you for help in reuniting her spirit with that of her lost love. A plan to reunite via séance (what would have been Houdini’s ultimate trick – his spirit surviving after death) was spoiled by those also associated with Houdini’s death. In Midnight Mysteries: Haunted Houdini, you’ll solve the mysteries associated with Houdini’s death, and find the culprit(s) ultimately responsible. |

Developers know you're only as good as your last game, and unfortunately for Maximize Games, their last game was the ill-conceived Silent Scream: The Dancer. Before making that buggy, confusing, chock-full of bad dialog hidden object game, the company made a great little time-management/romance game in 2010 called 2 Tasty. Thank goodness, Maximize seems to have realized the error of its ways and gone back to what it does well; the result is a fun little sequel to 2 Tasty called 2 Tasty Too: L'Amour a Paris. |

While most people going through school hated math or had a hard time with it, something about math always clicked with me. I won’t say that I’m particularly gifted when it comes to numbers, but they just make sense. There’s no theory or interpretation with math; everything is fixed and definitive. 1+1 will always equal 2 just the same as 3 will always be a prime number. It makes me happy to know that there’s a single person out there developing a game based on a mathematical concept. It finds you manipulating light in outer space, and it’s called Waveform. |

In case you haven’t noticed, indie PC gaming is one of the most innovative and interesting gaming scenes out there. Even more so than that is the mod community, that often creates entirely new works from the same engines that are powering almost every major big budget release out there. You know – the ones that sell for six times the price of most indie games. These mods? Yeah, they’re usually free. Every once in a while a mod garners enough attention to warrant a proper release. Such is the case for the upcoming first person exploration game, Dear Esther. |

Thanks to the Pokemon series, catching and battling monsters has become its very own genre. A number of titles have already attempted to take that same magic and transport it to mobile and social platforms, but the developers at Red Seraphim are attempting to do something a bit different. Not only will the upcoming Kymera Keeper feature more in-depth gameplay, it will also be available across a range of platforms. |

The Vansig family just can't stop being evil, and they've come back for yet another round of dastardly shenanigans in Nightfall Mysteries: Black Heart, the third tale of the clan of no-goodniks and the helpless cheese-eaters who rely on you to put a stop to it. But despite the promise of simmering malevolence it's actually a rather dull affair: a flat, faux-creepy adventure that achieves mediocrity and nothing more. |

Racing games can be a great deal of fun namely because their recipe is often simple: quality controls, fast-pacing, fun tracks, and maybe a unique gimmick or two. Gameloft’s Google+ titleGT Racing Motor Academy fails on all of these fronts. Giving players virtually nothing to sate their racing appetite and taking the free-to-play model a bit too far, the grinding nature of the game wears thin quickly. Coupled with awful controls, horrendous sound design, minimal style, and zero real challenge, it feels like a slapped together title made only for a quick buck. |
