There are so many twin stick shooter games on the App Store it’s increasingly hard to distinguish between them or get excited for any of them at this point. As players there’s certainly a growing feeling that we’ve seen all this game style has to offer, which makes it harder for developers to find a fresh idea or to get our attention. Much to our delight, Wispin has put a unique spin on the genre and made something pretty special and fresh.

Blendo Games (developers of Air Forte) have announced their next game, Atom Zombie Smasher. The tactical strategy game is set in 1961, where "the only thing preventing the zombie apocalypse is you and your mercenaries... and a nuclear-capable orbital battlestation." A few well-meaning souls might try to tell you otherwise, but fame largely comes down to who you know. Consider the case of Fametown, a new social game backed by the likes of former Disney CEO Michael Eisner and Napster founder Shaun Fanning. These two names alone have secured the game's recognition in venues as diverse as Vanity Fair and Teen Magazine—publications that would have ignored similar and possibly better games—and we have little doubt that this publicity will prove a boon in the game’s first few months. But does it live up to the hype? Well, yes and no.

If the Harry Potter series has done nothing else, it has definitely given the world a fascination with the idea of being a young wizard. Magic Life attempts to capitalize on this fascination by putting you in the role of a budding apprentice who’s just arrived at the curious Islands of Magic. Unfortunately, despite an interesting premise and a ridiculously adorable presentation, Magic Life fizzles out when it comes to the actual gameplay.
