What is Real Games working on in casual games? We have no specific new insights, but we can speculate about a future product based on a Forbes article that went up this morning. According to Forbes, Real plans to launch a new service called Unifi, that will collect all your digital content --- video, music, files, e-books – and allow you to access it on all your devices – computers, phones, and tablets. That’s a very cool service, except it’s missing one piece of content – games. |

So, how is CityVille, Zynga’s latest game, doing so far a week after launch? In the words of Larry David from Curb your Enthusiasm, “pretty pretty good.” Within 24 hours, 290,000 people were playing CityVille (compared to 116,000 players in FrontierVille the first day of that game). Within a week, according to David Ko (Zynga SVP Mobile), CityVille saw 3 million daily active users. Which is cool, because maybe the game is doing well enough, someone at Zynga will realize that their rocking email system that sends me an email notification every time someone I know invites me to play, sends me a gift, or sends a reminder of someone sending me a zoning permit that I ignored since it’s clogging my email box, may actually tone down their email notifications a bit. |

Phoenix Online Studios, the team behind the King’s Quest-inspired episode adventure game The Silver Lining, has announced a bunch of holiday goodies for King’s Quest fans -- including a downloadable soundtrack, a new e-card website, and a raffle to win a professionally mastered soundtrack CD plus other prizes. But perhaps the best news of all is that the third chapter in the adventure, “My Only Love Sprung from My Only Hate,” will launch on January 29, 2011. |

I’m a first-generation gamer in my family, so it’s too soon to tell if any of my gaming “Tastes” have been genetically pre-determined. The safer bet is that they developed over time as I played more games. Either way, by the time a person has played their first game, they’ve initiated themselves somewhat into the world of gaming. They start to develop opinions and the more they play, the more informed those opinions become. Some experienced gamers naively assume that their tastes are more “correct” than others – a notion that I dismiss as fairly ridiculous. |
