While the casual gaming industry definitely isn’t lacking in match-three puzzle games, you’re more likely to run into titles with little to no originality than to find a game that tries to be different. In comes Striped Arts with a very interesting take on the match-three genre, a game called Ballville: The Beginning, that is one of the more charming offerings in the genre.

Don’t let the generic and overly long name fool you: Cause of Death: Can You Catch the Killer? is as heart pounding as any thriller on TV, even if it is essentially a text based adventure. The actual interactivity is quite limited, but the game is so well written and finely tuned that it doesn’t matter. It also features a great episodic structure that hopefully means we’ll still be playing Cause of Death for some time to come.

What do you get when you mix Build-A-Lot, Gemini Lost, and My Kingdom for the Princess? Peggle?! No, what were you thinking? Wandering Willows? Closer, but not yet there. All kidding aside, the game I’m talking about is Jack of all Tribes, the newest release by developer DivoGames. With the previously mentioned role models and plenty of unique features and quirky ideas, the game is sure to please casual players of all shades.

Ars Technica recently spoke to several indie developers, including Jolly Rover's Andrew Goulding and Machinarium's Jakub Dvorsky, about the challenge of deciding how much to charge for their games. Finding the pricing "sweet spot"on portals such as Steam or Apple's App Store can be tricky, since setting the price too high can turn buyers away, but setting it too low can create a perception of lower quality and condition people to expect cheap entertainment all the time.
