Red November Preview (PC, Mac, iPad)

7th of January 2012

All hands on deck! There’s a gnomish emergency 20,000 leagues below the sea! Or at least there will be later this month. That’s when Fierce Wombat Games will be making their much anticipated debut on the scene with a digital adaptation of Fantasy Flight Games’ Red November.

Zombie Takeover Review (iPhone, iPad)

7th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 60

We’ve played a good amount of tower games by now, and I’d have no problem saying that there doesn’t really need to be anymore. Zombie Takeover distances itself from these games by adding additional gameplay elements not found in alternatives. While it’s easy to dismiss Zombie Takeover as “another tower game” or “another zombie game”, it actually has a good amount of originality and fun to keep you coming back for more.

The week in gaming news: January 6, 2012 edition (Online)

6th of January 2012

As you can probably imagine, the first week of 2012 was a little on the slow side. While a number of notable games launched -- including the likes of Hidden Chronicles and Scramble With Friends -- things were quiet when it comes to gaming news, so this week's round-up is a little shorter than usual. As we wait for the games industry to pick up steam, here's all the news from this past week for you to catch up with.

Avenger Review (Android)

6th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 80

If you’re not already familiar with it, there’s a style of 2D action games that has come to be known as “Metroidvania”. This refers to the mashing of styles made popular by the traditional Metroid and Castlevania games. Players hack, slash and whip their way around a larger map, room by room, looking for treasure and leveling up their characters and weapons. It’s a tried and true formula that has been adapted very well by many other teams over the last couple of decades. CWA Games has come around with Avenger to take a stab at making a mobile game in this classic style, so let’s see how it holds up.

Kingdom Rush Review (iPad)

6th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 90

I've reached the point where I tend to groan when a new tower defense game comes out for iOS devices. There are so many of these games —and so many of them feel identical to one another— that they kind of blur together after a while. That's why I was so surprised this week when I started playing Kingdom Rush, a game that I found myself playing for hours at a time.

Lunar Racer Review (iPhone, iPad)

6th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 60

Oftentimes the best concepts in games are those that are simple. Noodlecake Studios showed players this with their first iOS title, Super Stickman Golf, and are now attempting to do so again with Lunar Racer. A stylized and futuristic racer in which players dart about an entire 2D planet, it’s easy enough to pick up on and makes for a fantastic idea, but often feels far too easy and imbalanced.
