What Zynga's Internet gambling intentions says about 4th quarter earnings (Google+)

20th of January 2012

It’s official. According to AllThingsD, Zynga has confirmed that it is currently investigating getting into Internet gambling, assuming it is made legal (which it will be).

It should come as no surprise that Zynga is seeking partners in Internet gambling. Zynga Poker is still the top poker game on Facebook, Zynga has announced plans to create a Zynga Casino suite of games, and there has been a lot of merger and acquisition (M&A) activity around social game companies that focus on casinos recently.

What is surprising is that they are tipping their hand around this strategy, just a month after going IPO. Internet gambling still is illegal in the US and Zynga just went public with the intention of becoming the number company to play games, not to gamble. So, why the admission, when it would have been just as easy to play it coy?

Tap Buggies Review (iPhone, iPad)

20th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 60

Pocket Gems, the mobile games developer behind popular titles such as Tap Pet Hotel and Tap Zoo, is adding a new 2D app to its repertoire: Tap Buggies. As the name would suggest, it’s centric to the insect world, and in typical Pocket Gems fashion consists of creatures wielding big watery eyes. Oh yeah, and it also goes into that whole business simulation concept again. This time around, however, it’s been shrunken down to a bug’s level.

Sea Legends: Phantasmal Light Review (PC)

20th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 70

Mike and Jane are enjoying a beautiful afternoon aboard their yacht, the Sea Bliss, when a storm suddenly appears. The sky turns dark and a strange symbol glows in the sky right before the yacht is hit with a powerful wave. You come to on a deserted island just in time to see Mike’s unconscious body being dragged away. Thus begins Sea Legends: Phantasmal Light.

Day Dream Review (Facebook)

20th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 30

Let’s face it, we’ve all dreamed about getting that winning lottery ticket and becoming instant millionaires. Of course, that’s not likely to happen, which is why the concept behind Day Dream is so appealing. Unfortunately, the reality of the game is far from what one would hope, with most of the play feeling superfluous and un-gratifying. You may be able to buy the cars, homes, and vacations of your dreams, but it’s just not that much fun when the spending isn’t real.

Cube World Preview (PC)

20th of January 2012

When Minecraft first popped up on the scene, about a thousand clones or “inspired by” games popped up everywhere. The Xbox Live Arcade Indie section became flooded with games using as many variations on the words “mine” and “craft” as you could possibly imagine. A 2D version, Terraria, popped up on Steam and became a best seller. The “voxel (volumetric pixel)” style was everywhere, digging and crafting were all the rage, and it was all thanks to a game that was then in the alpha stage of development.

Fortune Summoners Preview (PC)

20th of January 2012

Stop me if you've heard this before. There's magic in the world, and it's a lot more commonplace than one might think. Three children who are attending the magical academy of the area set out on an adventure that will take them across their world and teach them that facing danger and doing the right thing isn't always easy. What? No! It's not Harry Potter! I'm talking about Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone, an upcoming action-RPG coming out for PC.

Super Crate Box dev offers tips on how to succeed with iOS (iPad)

20th of January 2012

Super Crate Box's launch last week went over pretty big, thanks in large part to the fact that the game is excellent. It also didn't hurt that a lot of very big websites provided some very high-profile coverage. It's probably safe to say that Super Crate Box is a definite success story for developer Vlambeer, and the studio's business and development guru Rami Ismail took a little time to talk with indiegames.com about how his company managed to score an iOS home run. iOS developers, you may want to take some notes.

Planet Buster Review (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad)

20th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 80

Match three games are a dime a dozen these days. That means that if you want to find a good one, you'll likely have to slog through a lot of crud. Planet Buster, thankfully, is one of the gems that stands out from the muck, thanks to its goofy style and incredibly fun gameplay.

The Network Review (PC)

20th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 50

The Network. Granted, it’s not a very enticing name, but look beyond that and you’ll find a game that, despite being quite simple at its heart, is oddly addicting in short bursts. The Network is very similar to Geometry Wars, although the former could be classed as the poor man’s latter, since none of the unique style or mixture of fast paced gameplay is quite on offer here. However, those looking for a retro shooter may find some enjoyment with The Network.

Maestro: Notes of Life Review (PC)

20th of January 2012
Gamezebo Rating: 70

Along with Big Fish Game Studios, ERS Games has become one of the most highly-regarded purveyors of hidden object adventures. Known for its spooky storylines and exemplary graphics, ERS has gained a reputation for making hauntingly beautiful games; unfortunately, as the new solid-but-not-overly-innovative hidden object adventure, Maestro: Notes of Life demonstrates, the developer is in serious danger of becoming the proverbial one trick pony.
