CandyMeleon is the type of game which feels like it would have been right at home in arcades in the early 80s, but with graphics and sound a bit more befitting a contemporary title. The premise of the game is that you are in control of a cartoon chameleon with a craving for candy, and one who has a bit of swagger in his walk at that. Fortunately, as he walks through the woods, candy is in abundance, and your goal is to catch as much of it as possible: either by tilting your device left or right to move, or by tapping the screen to flick his long, sticky tongue skyward. |

Today’s video games tell their stories with photorealistic graphics, fully orchestrated soundtracks, and crews of professional voice actors. Is there still a place for the genre that started it all—the humble text adventure? Absolutely. There will always be that niche of game fans that enjoy imagining their own visuals and voice-overs. My Geek Farm is a text-based game that strives to attract that niche, but it works better as a ten-minute joke than as a full experience. |

A lot of good can come from playing video games. It can reduce stress and depression, and even improve the memory of the elderly. But there are some companies out there who wish to take it further. If playing a game can improve you as a person, why can’t it also improve the world around you? This is a question Global Gaming Initiative is hoping to answer. |

If you haven’t been living under a pixelated block these past few years, then chances are good you’re familiar with Minecraft. The game has taken the world by storm, and inspired players far and wide to construct massive, elaborate constructions out of humble squares. To that end, the mobile version, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, just surpassed the 10 million sales mark, and Mojang has announced plans to update the game with a flurry of new content. |

The darkness inevitably comes for us all, but that doesn’t mean we have to make it easy for it to grab us with its cold touch. Ecotone is a platforming game that encapsulates our struggle against blackness: The fighting, the running, and the sweet soundtrack that accompanies our tumultuous travels (it’s in our heads). |

As some of you may have noticed, Firaxis's Haunted Hollow appeared and then quickly disappeared from the App Store last week. I suppose it isn't so surprising, seeing as how the word "haunted" is in its title. Regardless, the game has resurfaced on the App Store, and ostensibly is here to stay. |
